MUSIC PROGRAM
A blessed legacy of our faith tradition is the rich heritage of inspiring Anglican Church music. At St. Peter's music is an integral, leavening ingredient of both our worship and fellowship. We have been blessed by Tom Bailey joining us to lead our music ministry and provide virtuoso performance on our magnificent organ. More information on Tom Bailey's extensive background is provided in the Our Pastoral Team section of the menu. Our choristers are talented, active and devoted members of the parish. Here's a brief description of their organization and activities:
- The St. Peter's Adult Choir rehearses weekly September through May and regularly sings the Sunday 10:15 Eucharist. We have an extensive and eclectic repertoire ranging from traditional Anglican Tudor music to contemporary composers, including an occasional spiritual. This choir sings Evensongs and concerts throughout the church year. Our big works this year are Mozart’s Missa Brevis K. 275 (with period instruments) in November, and Franz Joseph Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass at Easter. We are happy to welcome new members. Just contact Mr. Bailey and arrange for a “non-threatening” audition. You only have to sing a hymn of your choice with an easy vocal exercise to determine your range.
- The St. Peter's Treble Choir is open to children (usually in the 2nd grade) who have developed good reading skills. The Trebles rehearse on Wednesday afternoons at 5 PM. Our children are heavily involved in the Royal School of Church Music Voice for Life program. They earn treasured ribbons and medals as they progress musically through the course. Most of our children attend the RSCM camps during the summer where they receive intense training in classical choral repertoire, singing and theory. The children often join our adult choir in singing anthems and once a month sing by themselves on Family Sunday. They will also sing a solo Evensong in November.
- The St. Peter's Bell Choir is looking for new members to join us in joyful ringing. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings and perform once a month on Family Sundays as well as special occasions.
